Empathy with Honesty
I want my students to know I care about their learning experience and believe they deserve an equal opportunity to learn regardless of their background. I aim to create a classroom where students feel welcomed, their uniqueness celebrated, and feel like their voice matters in the world. My approach to achieving this goal is to weave kindness, compassion, and honesty into lessons and feedback with my students while showing them how to improve and grow as learners.
Deepening Parent/Student Relationships
Fostering relationships between students and their families extend beyond the classroom. The education a child receives at school overlaps with their home life, and as an educator, I have a responsibility to serve their community. When setting up my classroom, I will look through a culturally affirming lens to inform my teaching practices. I believe my purpose as an educator is to nurture, guide, inspire, motivate, encourage, and empower.
Critical Thinking
If students use deductive reasoning, they have the skills to make reasonable judgments, evaluate the world they live in, be more self-aware, and feel confident in solving problems. I will foster critical thinking in my students by encouraging them to ask meaningful questions, follow the evidence they have, think about what they already know, and reach contemplative learning.
Global Perspectives
The view of humanity from a global perspective must encompass a multi-disciplinary study area. I will teach my students that sometimes, to understand other's perspectives, we need to reposition ourselves mentally and physically. I will teach my students to acknowledge the world's vast cultural differences to become prosperous and valuable contributors to the worldwide community.
